Sharing is caring!

In case you couldn’t tell, I love homeschooling.  I love spending lots of time with my kids.  I love planning fun lessons.  I love knowing all of my kids friend.  There are many reasons why this is a wonderful educational choice.  If I had to choose my favorite thing about homeschooling, though, I would have to say homeschool flexibility.  It is my all time favorite benefit of homeschooling!

Favorite Benefit of Homeschooling ~ Flexibility

My favorite benefit of homeschooling is the flexibility. We have complete control over our child's education - which allows plenty of room for flexibility.

Flexibility to travel

If you spend any time pricing vacations, you know that air fare and hotels are more substantially more expensive when public schools are on breaks. Most families are restricted to traveling then so there is a higher demand (and higher price) for those popular times.  We have taken quite a few vacations while everyone else is in school and it really is the way to go. Traveling is cheaper and nowhere near as crowded.  We recently took advantage of this benefit of homeschooling to soak up some sunshine in Maui.

We use this homeschool perk to visit family back in Virginia too.  Flying whenever public schools are in session lets us take advantage of cheaper air fare.  Sometimes we bring school work with us and sometimes we don’t. We miss some of our co-op days, but that is okay because the attendance requirements are not as strict as in most public schools.

Flexibility to choose the curriculum

Homeschoolers have the flexibility to choose the curriculum that will help their families achieve their educational goals.  That means that you might not use the same programs as your friends.  You can even choose a curriculum and then change your plan part way through the year. That is okay.  I have done that a few times.  You have the flexibility to always do what is best for your family.  Homeschool flexibility is an amazing benefit of homeschooling.

Flexibility to plan our own schedule

Homeschoolers can choose a daily schedule that is flexible and works for their unique family. They are not constrained to schooling only on certain hours of certain days in certain months.  A homeschool schedule can look different for every family.  It might mean a four-day school week or doing school work at night.  We usually do our school work Monday – Friday during the day, but I love being flexible with that routine.  Yesterday the sun came out around lunch time and I was able to send my kids outside to play.  That was not in my plan, but it was wonderful.  The sun can be a rare sight during a Washington winter so I am glad we were able to take full advantage of it.  My kids finished their schoolwork after plenty of sunshine and fresh air.
